Levels of Qualification in Nondestructive Testing

There are three levels of qualification as per Recommended Practice No. SNT-TC-1A: Personnel Qualification and Certification in Nondestructive Testing.


NDT Level I

Individuals are qualified to perform specific calibrations, specific NDT, specific evaluations for acceptance and rejection according to written instructions and to record results. Such individuals shall receive specific instructions or supervision from a NDT Level II or III.

NDT Level II

Individuals are qualified to set up and calibrate equipment, interpret and evaluate results as per applicable codes, standards and customer specifications. Such individuals should be familiar with scope and technique limitations. Organize and report the results. They should exercise assigned responsibility for on-the-job training and guidance of trainees and NDT Level I personnel. NDT Level II should be able to organize and report the results of NDT tests.

NDT Level III

Qualified NDT Level III individuals should be capable of developing, qualifying and approving procedures, establishing and approving techniques, interpreting codes, standards, specifications and procedures; designating the particular NDT methods, techniques and procedures to be used.
Such individuals should have sufficient practical background in applicable materials, fabrication and product technology. They should be capable of training and examining Level I and II personnel.

Presently at RIPPLE we deliver training for NDT Level I and NDT Level II.
